postheadericon Analysis of Techniques and Conventions

In his book Understanding comics: the invisible art (1993), McCloud discusses the various conventions and techniques that comics and graphic novels use. After reading Bernice Eisenstein’s memoir I was a child of Holocaust survivors (2006), it is very easy to see the conventions and techniques that she uses. This analysis of Eisenstein’s memoir will be based heavily on McCloud’s book and will discuss such topics as: the level of abstraction, transitions, timing and action, lines, backgrounds, and balloons, picture & text, and colour.
